Day Trip to Chennai/Salt Water

Thursday morning was exhausting. I had to wake up at 4:00am (after going to bed at midnight) in order to catch a flight to Chennai, which is on the southeast coast of India. When we landed in Chennai we were pleasantly surprised to be greeted by 85 degree sunny weather.

Our return trip, was rather interesting. We had a 3:15 flight on Indian Airlines. For some reason when we got to the airport, the flight was delayed. Since we were supposed to be having dinner with the executive team from our partner company, we HAD to get back on time. We decided to see if we could get on to another flight, but unfortunately, there were no other flights with Indian Airlines. When we asked at the desk, the girl said we would have to talk to the manager, and directed us behind the counter, into a dank little room. Inside was a man (who I swear was just sitting at the desk face forward, with not much of anything on his desk, when we walked in). We explained the problem, and he asked for our itineraries. After staring at them for 30 seconds. He said “You paid a good fare. I think we can do this.” So with that, he leaves his office to talk to the other airline. After about an hour and a half of waiting, he provided us with two boarding passes. He then escorted us to security to make sure we got through (fyi for you feminists, you’ll love the fact that in India, women have separate security lines at the airport). He then followed us to the gate and made sure that we got on. We were amazed at how far out of his way this individual went, spending over an hour and a half of his day to make sure that we got on an early flight and made it to our dinner. We are sending him a thank you gift.
Wednesday night was dinner with the team at Salt Water, an extremely trendy restaurant on

Salt Water:

the southern tip of Mumbai. The ride from our hotel to the restaurant included about two hours of driving time. The restaurant was fantastic. This outdoor restaurant is situated along the beach, and has a sand floor. Our table was set up alongside a long couch with large pillows for us to sit on. We were told that Madonna ate at this restaurant only a few weeks ago. Dinner was great, as was the conversation. Unfortunately the days activities wore on me significantly ( as well as the others), and I was dozing off by the end of the meal. I spent much of the ride home sleeping in the car.

Thanks Kaviya! I've reserved this blog solely for my international excursions, which means it will often have long periods of inactivity. However, I'm excited to say that in May of this year, I will have another similar trip with my family (including more time in India), and will again have daily postings!
